I know that it is truncated but my VM is hanging anyways so nothing new would be added. I do have the green turtle in the bottom right corner when I open my VM, so based off other forum posts I think that means that Hyper V is still enabled somehow. * 3D (and 2D) acceleration are both turned off * hyper-V windows feature is turned off, as well as every related hyper-v feature (virtual machine platform, windows hypervisor platform etc.) I've read all the other forum posts, and I made sure that: Hi, Problem: Trying to install Kali on my Windows 2008 R2 VPS but after clicking any of the Boot Menu options e.g Graphic Install, it keeps showing a frozen blinking underscore black screen or sometimes (1 out of 50 tries maybe) it will go through to the setup page and will get frozen in 'detecting link on enp0s3' message. I was trying to open Kali Linux in full screen on virtual box so I gave following commands in chronological order with root access -apt-get Install linux-headers-686-pae apt-get install Linux-headers-(uname -r) reboot apt-get install virtualbox-guest-x11 reboot uname -r 5.5. I can access the "choose boot option" by pressing F12 during the brief flash of loading screen, but that is about all I can do. I installed Kali Linux 2020.2 in virtual box 6.1.12. However, no matter what I try, every time I boot into my machine I just get a black screen and a blinking cursor. I'm also trying to create a Windows 10 machine on the latest version (6.1.2) of vbox. Here is what I did: In the Oracle VM Virtual Box Manager, I went to: Kali VM - > Settings -> Display. My apologies, I'm completely new to this.My host machine is running Windows 10. My plan is to use the BIOS boot manager, to boot to the hard drive, and then use GRUB? I installed Kali (now Parrot) to an external HDD, and the GRUB bootloader to that HDD also. My primary OS is Windows 10, this is on my primary HDD. I just get a black screen with a flashing cursor, is this GRUB? I mean, it has to be GRUB. I face the same problem I had with Kali, I can install the distro fine, but cannot boot to it. If you are stuck on a black screen with cursor while starting Kali Linux on VirtualBox, and hence unable to log in to the system, this video may be of help. But I am completely new to Linux, thanks for your advice from steering away from Kali.Īlso, I've since heard about Parrot, it was recommended to me. Edit: Ive attached the logs and a screenshot of the screen it gets stuck on before login. That one can give you some fun challenges and can be used as a daily driver. Ubuntu 20.04 (64 bit)/Virtual Box 6.1.32. Once you've used something like Mint for a while and you are bored of it, try Arch Linux. Not to say that other distributions aren't reliable or easy to install, I've just installed a bunch of them and it tends to just work. I love the KDE desktop environment and Mint has been the most reliable to install and use from my perspective. If you are just trying to get your feet wet with Linux, my personal preference is Mint KDE edition. They use it for their task at hand, which might be testing the integrity of their network, or trying to understand how a piece of malware works. So I do get to see the basic display, but when it switches to the GUI I guess something goes wrong. Nobody that uses it professionally uses it as their daily driver operating system. VirtualBox log attached to this message.-Hi all, I just installed the latest Kali Linux 2020.3 on the latest VirtualBox 6.1.14 and after updating Kali, I get a black screen each time I restart the vm after logging in. They often just don't know what it's usefulness is and seem to pick it for it's hacker reputation. You have to understand that a lot of people mistakenly pick Kali when it is far from the tool for the job. I wasn't trying to discourage you from learning anything earlier when I questioned you using Kali. Or are you looking to learn the InfoSec world?Īre you planning on learning programming? Hey ElliotPoots, do you mind sharing what you are wanting to learn?Īre you looking to simply learn to use Linux?
